Wales manager Ryan Giggs has admitted it was a difficult decision to include Tom Lawrence in his 26-man group to face Croatia and Slovakia later this month.
Lawrence was charged a month later being involved after a group night out with Derby County.
The 25-year-old is expected to look along with club team-mate Mason Bennett, who has also been charged with drink-driving, in Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on October 15.
“It was a case of speaking to everyone involved,” said Giggs. “We have been pleased with Derby and I spoke with Philip Cocu to see what their stance was. It was not a simple choice.
“But from a football viewpoint, he played last night with Derby and that I wanted him engaged in the squad. He is an important player for us.”
Earlier World Cup finalists Croatia see the Cardiff City Stadium on October 13 wales face Slovakia in a Euro 2020 qualifier at Trnava on October 10 – .
“It’s not going to be easy because he may be considering this,” said Giggs. “I will see how he’s through this week, see how he trains and make a determination whether to begin with him or her not in any of the matches .”
Central defender Ashley Williams returns after being left out to the wins of last month over Azerbaijan and Belarus. Williams was without a club in the time after being released from Everton but has joined Championship side Bristol City.
“If Ash plays then he is the captain,” affirmed Giggs. “It is fantastic to have him backagain. He had not needed a club that was the reason I left him out, but he’s playing well and playing regularly so he is back in.”
Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey also comes back to the squad while Gareth Bale and Daniel James have also been included.
Wales are now fourth in their qualification group, having taken six points.
