Leicester centre-back Jonny Evans is”undervalued” because he is from Northern Ireland and might be enjoying for a top-four Premier League club, according to some national team supervisor Michael O’Neill.
31, evans, spent nine years in Manchester United but dropped under then director Louis van Gaal and was offered to West Brom in 2015.
Leicester took edge of West Brom’s Premier League relegation at 2018 and snapped up the centre-back for #3.5m.
Evans has been a solid-performer for Leicester, prompting Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness to state he would walk to United’s defence – despite their #80m registering of Harry Maguire from the summer.
“It’s fine, but it is not something I want to be told”, ” said O’Neill when requested about Souness’ comments.
“Jonny Evans – one of working with him, and I’ve mentioned this if he had been back at Manchester United – is a top-four player. He could work together with the top four components from the Premier League.
“My opinion hasn’t changed. I think players from Northern Ireland, go under the radar a bit and like Jonny, are undervalued.
“I think if you see him play, plenty of clubs will look back and think,’he had been accessible for not a lot of money’, in terms of Premier League cash, and how much clubs are spending for players.
“Leicester were quick, did their business well, and it’s been a wonderful part of business for them.”
Evans is at the Northern Ireland squad to the Qualifier against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on October 10, along with also the friendly against the Czech Republic in Prague four days. Both matches will be shown live on Sky Sports.
