Former Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen has died at age 43.
The Dutchman, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at October 2013, passed out at a hospice on Wednesday morning.
Rangers published a statement following his departure. It read:”Rangers is deeply saddened to announce that the former participant Fernando Ricksen passed out this morning after his battle with motor neurone disease.”
“Fernando spent trophy-laden seasons at Ibrox having originally joined a number of other Dutch players under manager Dick Advocaat in the summer of 2000.”
Ricksen won three League Cups, two Scottish Cups and two titles at Ibrox after joining Rangers.
He transferred into Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2006 in which he won a name and the UEFA Cup, beating Rangers at the closing in 2008.
