A 16-year-old Bianca Andreescu wrote herself a fake cheque.
This tact was a mock-up of this one given into the US Open winner.
Now, after beating the great Serena Williams 6-3 7-5 at Saturday’s compelling closing, the composed Canadian is prepared to cash a genuine one value roughly #3.1m.
“I’ve been dreaming about this moment for the maximum period,” the 19-year-old mentioned of winning her first Grand Slam title, wiping away tears as the magnitude of what she’d just attained finally hit.
“For it to become a fact is crazy.”
Crazy is a word and one that has consumed in her chats with the media within the past few days.
Not without good reason.
Struggling with injury and twelve months back, she dropped in the first round of qualifying in Flushing Meadows and was ranked at the world beyond the top 200.
But she’s grown into among the very talked-about young players on the planet following a rise this year.
Maria and andreescu, whose Romanian parents Nicu emigrated to Canada in the 1990s , had played matches .
Ever since that time she’s won prestigious WTA Premier titles in Indian Wells and Toronto, climbing to 15th in the world because of this and raking in #1.79m of her 1.97m livelihood prize money.

“It has been a crazy journey this season. I can definitely get used to the atmosphere .”
Along with the prize money? “Do not ask me because I don’t have any clue. I’ve never held that money in my life!”
Succumbing at a youthful age to the trappings of wealth and fame appears unlikely for the teenager, who has been cultivated an engineer by daddy Nicu, and mother Maria, also a chief compliance officer for a finance company.
Maria herself has become a favorite figure, particularly among media users, thanks to her striking appearance and as she attracts Coco, Andreescu’s pet , to sit during games.
Andreescu, a single child, describes her as”the coolest person I know and my role model”.
She has her mum to thank you for helping create the resilience that she needed to block out a passionate home crowd at Flushing Meadows because Williams threatened to spoil her hopes.
“I started meditating and visualising ever since I was 12 or 13 if my mum introduced me, and that I understand it was not such a big thing back then, but today it’s getting more popular since I think if you can control your mind, then you’re able to control a lot of things,” she said.
“I think that’s what has been working very well for me. I just kept doing that.
“When I am on the court facing those big phases, I am really good at just blocking everything and staying in the zone”
Belief is not she struts with her mind constantly up – on the Arthur Ashe Stadium that is cavernous, even in her first Grand – around the court.
And that optimism exudes in as using a killer forehand currently ranked among the finest in the game, as well a marvellous all-purpose game that has the choice to pull against enemies apart.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner rated as the greatest player in history, williams, could not deal with the consistent depth of the teenager as she had been hustled out of a record-equalling leading.
“I really feel as though Bianca plays well under stress. She goes outside and she plays tough,” the 37-year-old said.
“She’s what she does best, and that’s move until the ball, that is hit winners, so that is play with a whole lot of intensity”
Andreescu had already earned six wins above top-10 players this year – Caroline Wozniacki, Elina Svitolina, Angelique Kerber (double ), Kiki Bertens and Karolina Pliskova – going into Saturday’s final.
And Williams, who led against in their Rogers Cup in Toronto ahead of the American retired with a back injury, became the latest victim.
This implies also an outstanding 45 of her 49 matches this year and Andreescu has won 14 straight games.
She’s the first teenager to raise a Grand Slam singles title since Maria Sharapova won the 2006 US Open aged 19 and matched Monica Seles’ record of winning a significant at the Open era on her fourth appearance in a Grand Slam main draw.
A dream-like season has also not been without its own challenges, Even though Andreescu’s increase has been rapid.
She even missed a sizable chunk of the year after suffering a shoulder injury in the Miami Open at March which, following an ill-judged effort to perform with the French Open, compelled her to miss the entire grass-court swing, making her swift ascent and formidable winning album even more notable.
“It’s undoubtedly a practice of existence. You’re never going to have ups all the time,” she said.
“So I think in those moments, you just have to deal with it the best you possibly can, and that’s to simply keep fighting your dreams and only stay as persistent and persevere as far as you can.
“I understand in these minutes you feel as if you can’t.
“However, if you feel that there are great times beforehand, then these challenging moments are certainly well worth it. I think it assembles you .
